GTA 6 PEGI rating: what the pulled 18 listing said
A report says PEGI briefly posted the GTA 6 PEGI rating, an 18 detailing gore, drugs and sex. What it said, what's confirmed, and what parents should know.

The GTA 6 PEGI rating went up and came down within a day. Europe's ratings board gave Grand Theft Auto VI a PEGI 18 on Friday, October 2, 2026, with an unusually specific description of its gore, drug use and sex scenes, then removed the page, as Video Games Chronicle reported. The ESRB's Mature 17+ rating in North America is still up, and the game still launches on November 19.
Key takeaways
- PEGI's listing gave GTA 6 an 18 for "strong graphic violence, strong sexual themes and use of illegal drugs." An archived copy from October 2 shows it; on October 3, PEGI's database returns no result for the game.
- The pulled text describes decapitation and dismemberment, cocaine the player can carry and use at any time, nudity, intercourse scenes and occasional sexual fetish scenes. Those details are not confirmed by Rockstar as of October 3, 2026, and PEGI hasn't said why it removed the page.
- What is confirmed: the ESRB rates GTA 6 M for Mature 17+, with the same seven content descriptors as GTA V, and Rockstar's own site now shows that badge.
- The release date hasn't moved: November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
What the GTA 6 PEGI rating listing said
The page sat in PEGI's own public database. An archived copy captured at 17:08 UTC on October 2 lists Take-Two Interactive Software Europe as publisher, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S as platforms, and four content icons: violence, sex, drugs and in-game purchases. A note on the same page says the release date "remains 19 November 2026," whatever other dates the listing shows.
The content section runs several paragraphs. In short, it says:
- Violence: frequent, and the open world lets you harm anyone in it: civilians, criminals and police. It's bloody and realistic, and some weapons can cause "detailed decapitation and dismemberment."
- Drugs: described as frequent and prominent. You can take drugs with other characters or straight from your inventory, and the listing singles out cocaine, which the player can carry around and snort from their hand at any time.
- Sex: nudity, scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes. In nightclubs, the player can pay for private dances and touch the dancers during them.
- Everything else: domestic animals can be hurt, with less injury detail than people; strong language is frequent; discriminatory language turns up on in-game TV and radio; and in-game purchases are optional.
GamesRadar quoted the same passages on October 2.
Pulled, but not overturned
Nobody has explained why the GTA 6 PEGI rating page disappeared. On October 3, a search for Grand Theft Auto VI on PEGI's database says no such title can be found, and Gamereactor reports that neither Rockstar nor PEGI has commented.
A removed page isn't the same as a changed rating. The archived listing showed October 2 as the platform dates, a date the page itself said wasn't the release date, so it may simply have gone public early. That is our inference, not anything PEGI has said.
What's confirmed: rated M for Mature 17+
The GTA 6 ESRB rating is the one nobody has pulled. The ESRB's listing rates GTA VI M for Mature 17+ on PS5 and Xbox Series, with seven content descriptors: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Mature Humor, Nudity, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, and Use of Drugs and Alcohol. It also flags In-Game Purchases.
Rockstar's GTA VI page now shows that M badge. An archived copy from September 29 still carried the "Rating Pending" badge, and one from October 1 shows Mature.
Those are exactly the descriptors on GTA V's ESRB entry, so the US label alone can't tell you whether GTA 6 goes further than its predecessor. The pulled PEGI text is the only detailed description so far.
Why it matters if you're a parent
If you're weighing whether a teenager should play, the GTA 6 age rating is clear in both regions:
| Rating board | Rating | What the board says it means | Status on October 3 |
|---|---|---|---|
| PEGI (Europe) | 18 | Adults only: gross or motiveless violence, glamorized drug use, explicit sexual activity | Posted October 2, then removed |
| ESRB (North America) | M, 17+ | Generally 17 and up; may include intense violence, blood and gore, sexual content, strong language | Live on the ESRB and Rockstar's site |
PEGI's own definitions reserve 18 for violence that becomes gross or motiveless, for glamorized illegal drug use and for explicit sexual activity. The ESRB's guide defines Strong Sexual Content as explicit or frequent sexual behavior, and its Nudity descriptor as graphic or prolonged nudity, the stronger of its two nudity labels.
What that means in practice:
- Neither board points younger. One says adults only, the other 17 and up.
- The specifics most parents care about (drugs on demand, sex scenes, dismemberment) come from the pulled page, so treat them as likely, not confirmed.
- PS5 and Xbox family settings can block games above an age rating you choose. If GTA 6 isn't for your household, set that before launch day.
What happens next
- PEGI or Rockstar could comment, or the listing could return in the same or edited form.
- November 18: the Miami Heat play the Bucks as Vice City in a themed home game, a day before launch.
- November 19: GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Here's what the standard edition costs, and what Game Informer's cover story showed about the map.
Bottom line
Both ratings say GTA 6 is for adults or players 17 and up, and the ESRB's M is confirmed on its site and Rockstar's. The pulled GTA 6 PEGI rating listing's detail on gore, drugs and sex scenes is the clearest picture of the game's content yet, but it's not confirmed by Rockstar as of October 3, 2026, and PEGI hasn't said why it came down. If you're deciding for a teen, take it as a strong signal of what's in the game and check again closer to November 19.
FAQ
Is GTA 6 rated 18 or M?
Both, depending on where you live. The ESRB rates it M for Mature 17+ in North America, and that rating is live. A PEGI 18 rating for Europe appeared on PEGI's database on October 2, 2026, and was later removed without explanation.
Why was the GTA 6 age rating page taken down?
No one has said. As of October 3, 2026, neither PEGI nor Rockstar has commented. The archived page showed October 2 platform dates while stating the release date was still November 19, which suggests it may have gone public early, but that's a guess.
Can you use drugs in GTA 6?
The pulled PEGI listing says yes: drug use is frequent, and the player can take drugs from their inventory, including cocaine at any time. Rockstar hasn't confirmed that description. The ESRB's confirmed descriptors include Use of Drugs and Alcohol.
