Mario Kart Tour shut down for good. Nintendo ended service for its 2019 phone racer at 11:00 p.m. Pacific time on September 29, 2026 (2:00 a.m. Eastern and midnight in Mexico City on September 30), and the game can no longer be played. There is no offline version coming, and the rubies left in your account are gone with it.
Key takeaways
- Nintendo's support page confirms the end of service at 11:00 p.m. PT on September 29, 2026. Racing, shops and multiplayer are over.
- Nintendo's FAQ says plainly that an offline version is not scheduled for release.
- Ruby sales stopped on July 7, 2026, and the Gold Pass was free for everyone in the final weeks. Nintendo's notices describe no refunds.
- You can still open the app to view Past Tours' Stats until January 12, 2027.
- AppMagic, a market intelligence firm, estimates about $268.5 million in lifetime player spending and 276 million downloads. Nintendo hasn't published either figure.
When Mario Kart Tour shut down, and what still works
The cutoff was 11:00 p.m. PT on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the time Nintendo gave when it announced the shutdown in July. Mario Kart Tour launched on iOS and Android on September 25, 2019, so it ran just over seven years.
It had been winding down for a while. Its last tour with new courses, drivers and karts ran in September 2023; from October 4, 2023 on, tours recycled earlier content, as Super Mario Wiki records from the in-game notice.
A little survives the shutdown. Nintendo's end-of-service FAQ says you can view Past Tours' Stats and send support inquiries from inside the app until 9:59 p.m. PT on January 12, 2027, and that past All-Cup Rankings stay viewable on that FAQ site until the end of September 2027. After that, nothing of your collection is left to look at.
What happened to your Mario Kart Tour rubies and Gold Pass
Nintendo ended ruby sales at 11:00 p.m. PT on July 7, 2026. Rubies you already had could still be spent in the Spotlight Shop, the Mii Racing Suit Shop and Coin Rush until service ended. Any you didn't spend are lost: none of the Nintendo notices we read mentions a refund for unspent rubies.
The Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass subscription went the same way. At that July 7 maintenance, Nintendo stopped new subscriptions and automatic renewals, then made the pass free:
- Subscribers (free trials included) kept the benefits at no charge until 10:59 p.m. PT on September 29.
- Everyone else got them free from the start of the Vacation Tour, 11:00 p.m. PT on August 4, until the same cutoff.
The free pass covered Gold Gifts, Gold Challenges, 200cc, a doubled daily cap on points and coins, and a multiplayer pipe gauge that fills twice as fast. Continuous-subscription bonuses ended on July 7.
Why there is no Mario Kart Tour offline version
Nintendo's answer is one line: "An offline version is not scheduled for release." It hasn't said why.
That stings more because Nintendo did the opposite for Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. When that game ended service in November 2024, Nintendo replaced it with Pocket Camp Complete, a paid offline version that took players' save data.
Our read, not Nintendo's explanation: Mario Kart Tour was built around time-limited online tours, rankings and live multiplayer, with no new content since 2023, so an offline edition would have needed real rework for a game that was earning far less than it once did.
How much Mario Kart Tour made
The Mario Kart Tour revenue figures are estimates, because Nintendo doesn't report revenue for individual mobile games. According to AppMagic data reported by Mobilegamer.biz:
| Estimate (AppMagic) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Lifetime in-app spending | about $268.5 million |
| Lifetime downloads | more than 276 million |
| Best month (October 2019) | just under $22 million |
| Monthly spending at the July 2026 announcement | around $650,000 |
| Share of spending from the US / Japan | 39% / 26% |
| Share of downloads from Mexico | 12% |
The curve explains the decision better than the total does. By the same estimates, spending fell from $5 to $6 million a month in 2020 and 2021 to roughly $3 million in 2022, and to a fraction of that by 2026.
Where to play Mario Kart now
Nintendo hasn't pointed Tour players to another phone game, so the series now lives on its consoles:
- Mario Kart World is the current game, a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive that launched with the console in June 2025. It takes about 22 GB, so check our Switch 2 SD card guide if your storage is tight.
- Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the option if you only own an original Switch, and it also plays on a Switch 2.
Neither is free, and neither carries over anything from Tour: your drivers, karts and rubies don't transfer.

Bottom line
Mario Kart Tour shut down on September 29, 2026, and Nintendo confirms it isn't coming back offline. If you still have the app, open it before January 12, 2027 if you want a last look at your Past Tours' Stats; after that, deleting it costs you nothing. If you want to keep racing, Mario Kart World on Switch 2 or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe on Switch are the real options, and both are paid console games.
FAQ
Can you still play Mario Kart Tour?
No. Service ended at 11:00 p.m. PT on September 29, 2026, and races, shops and multiplayer no longer work. The app only shows Past Tours' Stats and lets you send inquiries until January 12, 2027.
Will Nintendo release an offline version of Mario Kart Tour?
Not according to Nintendo's own FAQ, which says an offline version is not scheduled for release. That's different from Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, which got a paid offline edition in 2024.
Do I get a refund for unspent rubies?
Nintendo's notices don't describe one. Ruby sales stopped on July 7, 2026, and rubies could be spent in the in-game shops and Coin Rush until the shutdown; whatever was left is gone.
How much money did Mario Kart Tour make?
AppMagic estimates about $268.5 million in lifetime in-app spending from more than 276 million downloads. Those are a market intelligence firm's estimates, not figures from Nintendo.
