Amazon redesigned its whole new Kindle lineup on October 1, 2026: six e-readers from $149.99 to $319.99 in the US, all with flush-front screens and thinner, lighter bodies. It also added Kindle Click, a $34.99 Bluetooth remote that turns pages without touching the screen and works with any Kindle released in 2024 or later.
Key takeaways
- Six models, three families: the 6-inch Kindle ($149.99, or $189.99 in aluminum), the Kindle Paperwhite ($199.99, or $249.99 for the Signature Edition) and the color Kindle Colorsoft ($289.99, or $319.99 for the Signature Edition). Prices are Amazon's US list prices as of October 2, 2026.
- Every model gets a flush-front screen, with no raised border around the page, and a thinner, lighter body, according to Amazon.
- Kindle Click works with all the new Kindles and, per Amazon, any Kindle model from 2024 or later. A Kindle from 2023 or earlier is not covered.
- The $79.99 Page Turn Cover, with physical page-turn buttons, fits only the two Signature Editions.
- The 6-inch Kindles are on sale now in 19 countries. The Paperwhite and Colorsoft are on preorder, with shipping reported for October 28.
What changed in the new Kindle lineup
Amazon's announcement describes a new screen build it calls "reverse stack" construction, which puts the display flush with the front of the device. The company says it's a first for e-readers. The body color now wraps from the front to the back, and the palette is new: Ube (a purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, Graphite and Fig.
Here is every model with Amazon's US price and the main differences. Weights and screen sizes come from Techlicious and Gizmodo's launch coverage; battery figures are Amazon's claims.
| Model | US price | Storage | Screen | Battery (claimed) | What sets it apart |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle | $149.99 | 16 GB | 6-inch | Up to 6 weeks | 140 g; Ube or Graphite; Amazon says books open 30% faster than on the previous model |
| Kindle (aluminum) | $189.99 | 32 GB | 6-inch | Up to 6 weeks | Back made of 80% recycled aluminum; Alpine Sky or Seaglass Green |
| Kindle Paperwhite | $199.99 | 16 GB | 7-inch | Up to 12 weeks | 204 g; waterproof; adjustable warm light; Graphite |
| Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition | $249.99 | 32 GB | 7-inch | Up to 12 weeks | Aluminum back, auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turns, dock charging; Graphite or Seaglass Green |
| Kindle Colorsoft | $289.99 | 16 GB | 7-inch color | Up to 8 weeks | 204 g; color E Ink screen; Graphite |
| Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition | $319.99 | 32 GB | 7-inch color | Up to 8 weeks | Aluminum body, auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turns, dock charging; Graphite or Fig |
A few details sit outside the table. The eBook Reader notes that the 6-inch Kindle still has no warm light and no waterproofing, and that the aluminum model comes without ads by default. Kids versions of the Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft start at $179.99 and include 12 months of Amazon Kids+, Amazon says.

Kindle Click: what the $34.99 remote does
Kindle Click is a small white Bluetooth remote with two large round buttons for turning pages. Amazon pitches it for reading under the covers, on a treadmill or with the Kindle on a plane's tray table, as TechCrunch reported. According to Techlicious:
- You choose in settings which round button goes forward and which goes back.
- Two side buttons adjust the screen's brightness, and pressing both puts the Kindle to sleep.
- The battery is rechargeable over USB-C and rated for weeks of use. No cable or charger comes in the box.
- It's on preorder, with shipping starting October 28.
Which older Kindles work with Kindle Click
Amazon's rule is short: all the new Kindles, plus "any Kindle model from 2024 or later." Going by the release dates listed on Wikipedia's Kindle device history, that covers:
- the Kindle (2024) and the Kindle Paperwhite (2024), including its Signature Edition, all released in October 2024;
- the first Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition (October 2024) and the 16 GB Kindle Colorsoft (July 2025);
- the Kindle Scribe (2024) and the three Scribe models from September 2025, including the Kindle Scribe Colorsoft.
It leaves out the 2021 Paperwhite, the 2022 Kindle and the original 2022 Scribe, plus anything older. One trap: the 2022 and 2024 basic Kindles share the "11th generation" label, so check the year you bought yours, not the generation number.
The Page Turn Cover and dock fit only the Signature Editions
If you'd rather have buttons attached to the device, Amazon's $79.99 Page Turn Cover is a magnetic cover with physical page-turn buttons. It connects through the pogo pins (small metal charging contacts) on the back, so it needs no battery or pairing. Those pins exist only on the Paperwhite Signature Edition and the Colorsoft Signature Edition, so the cover fits those two models and nothing else. The same goes for the $59.99 Charging Dock, a stand that charges through the same pins. Amazon's regular Kindle covers start at $39.99, and the aluminum models get slim magnetic covers.

Which new Kindle fits which reader
This is our reading of the specs, not a test: we haven't used any of these devices.
- You want the cheapest good e-reader: the $149.99 Kindle. It's the lightest at 140 g, but it has no warm light and isn't waterproof.
- You read a lot, in bed or by the pool: the $199.99 Paperwhite. It adds a larger 7-inch screen, warm light, waterproofing and the longest claimed battery life in the lineup.
- You want physical page-turn buttons on the device: the $249.99 Paperwhite Signature Edition, since the Page Turn Cover fits only the Signature Editions. With the cover, that's $329.98.
- You read comics, cookbooks or picture books, or highlight in color: the Colorsoft at $289.99. Expect less battery than the Paperwhite: up to 8 weeks versus 12, by Amazon's figures.
- You already own a Kindle from 2024 or later: you may not need a new one. The $34.99 Click adds hands-free page turns to it.
When you can get one
Amazon says the 6-inch Kindle and its aluminum version are available now in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Japan, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Australia. The Paperwhite and Colorsoft open for preorder "on a rolling basis" in the same countries. The Kids Kindle is on sale now too.
Techlicious reports October 28 as the shipping date for the Paperwhite, the Colorsoft and Kindle Click. Gizmodo listed October 7 for the Colorsoft models, so check the date on Amazon's product page before you order. Amazon's announcement gives US prices only; prices in other countries weren't in it.
Bottom line
The new Kindle lineup is a design refresh across the board, with flush screens and lighter bodies, and the prices step up cleanly from $149.99 to $319.99. For most readers, the $199.99 Paperwhite is still the one to look at first. The bigger news for current owners is the $34.99 Kindle Click: if your Kindle is from 2024 or later, it gets remote page turns without an upgrade.
