Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch: lighting fixed, stutter not
The first Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch fixes dark interiors, but players still report stutter and slow menus on PS5 and PS5 Pro. What CDPR has said so far.

The first Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch arrived on October 1, 2026, two days after launch, and it fixes lighting rather than performance. CD Projekt Red's patch 5.00b brightens interiors that looked too dark and brings the console version closer to PC, but it says nothing about frame rate. Players on PS5 and PS5 Pro keep reporting stutter, autosave hitches and slow inventory screens, and the studio says it is investigating the issues sent to its support portal. Here is what the update changes, what players still see, and what you can do while you wait.
Key takeaways
- Patch 5.00b went live on October 1 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox Play Anywhere PC version. CD Projekt Red lists three changes: lighting adjustments (including interiors that "appeared too dark"), parity tweaks with PC, and a DLSS fix for the Xbox PC version.
- Push Square reports the PS5 download as version 5.000.020 at 1.1 GB. Other outlets print a different PS5 build number, so the reliable name is 5.00b.
- Performance problems on PS5 and PS5 Pro are player reports, and they vary a lot: some players say the game runs smoothly, others describe dropped frames, tearing and flickering. No one has found a pattern yet.
- CD Projekt Red has not promised a PS5 performance fix. It says it is investigating reported issues, and its community lead says the studio hopes to have a bloom change for all platforms ready for the next update.
- No confirmed workaround exists for consoles as of October 2, 2026. Reporting your issue through CD Projekt Red's support portal is the step the studio itself asks for.
What the Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch fixes
CD Projekt Red's patch 5.00b notes are short. The update covers the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and the PC Xbox Play Anywhere version, and lists three changes:
- A fix for DLSS being unavailable in the Xbox Play Anywhere version on PC.
- "Various lighting adjustments, including fixing some interiors that appeared too dark."
- "Various other adjustments to ensure parity with the PC version."
The studio posted the same list on the official Witcher account on X on the morning of October 1. On PS5, Push Square reports the update as version 5.000.020, a 1.1 GB download, and notes that lighting is the only concrete PS5 change in it. MP1st lists the PS5 build as 5.000.200 instead. CD Projekt Red's own post gives no console build number, so if the digits on your console don't match either one, look for the 5.00b label.
PC players got a second fix the same day. Hotfix 5.00c addresses saving and loading when the Documents folder path has special characters, quiet voiceover audio and a HairWorks change that hurt performance, among other things. It's for Steam, GOG, Epic, Battle.net and Xbox Play Anywhere only, not PS5.
Witcher 3 Remastered stutter: what PS5 and PS5 Pro players are seeing
None of the following comes from CD Projekt Red, and The Ruling Desk has not played the game. These are reports from players and one reviewer, and they disagree with each other.
Push Square's Robert Ramsey, who reviewed the remaster on PS5 Pro, wrote on September 30 that his copy ran perfectly in both graphics modes apart from one thing: a hitch whenever the game autosaves, which he says was also in the 2022 Complete Edition. Other players he found on Reddit, social media and in his review's comments described dropped frames, bad frame pacing, screen tearing, wrong lighting and flickering environments on the same console.
He then spent a few hours trying to reproduce the problems. Toggling motion blur, chromatic aberration and other effects made no difference. Neither did turning the telemetry options on and off, which some players had blamed, or changing the 120 Hz settings on his TV and the PS5 Pro. He floated old save files as a possible cause, but said his own years-old Complete Edition saves ran fine too.
The slow inventory reports come from the comments under Push Square's patch story. One PS5 Pro player says opening a chest or the inventory takes about 30 seconds, where the old version was nearly instant. Another commenter deleted old saves and started fresh after a reboot, and said the inventory still took "ages" to load. A third said the autosave stutter is what annoys them most.
For context, CD Projekt Red's launch announcement promises 60 fps with ray tracing on PS5 Pro through PSSR, Sony's AI upscaler, and up to 90 fps in Performance mode with VRR. Some players say they get exactly that; others say they don't. If you're curious where Sony's upscaling goes next, see our story on QSSR AI upscaling for PS5.
What CD Projekt Red has said
The studio has not described a PS5 or PS5 Pro performance problem in its own words. What it has said, as of October 2, 2026:
- In the patch 5.00b post: "we're investigating the issues you're reporting via our Technical Support portal," along with a promise of a PC hotfix for saving, which became 5.00c.
- Marcin Momot, who leads the studio's community and social media team, said on October 1 that it is looking at the bloom effect "across all platforms" and hopes to have changes ready for the next update, with no details yet.
- Paweł Sasko, a developer on the game, posted the same day that more fixes are "in the works, including bloom effect" and that the teams are monitoring player reports.
Neither post mentions stutter, autosaves or inventory loading on PS5. That doesn't mean they aren't being looked at; it means nothing about them has been promised.
What you can do while you wait
We found no fix for PS5 stutter that a source has confirmed, so we won't suggest one. Here is what the sources do support:
- Make sure you're on 5.00b. It fixes the dark interiors, so if your problem was lighting, it may already be solved.
- Report it. CD Projekt Red asks players to send issues through its PlayStation support page, and it says that's where its investigation starts. Include your console (PS5 or PS5 Pro), graphics mode, display settings and whether you're on an old or new save.
- Don't expect settings changes to help. Push Square's tests with visual effects, telemetry and 120 Hz settings changed nothing, and one player's fresh save did not fix slow inventory loading.

Bottom line
Patch 5.00b is a lighting and parity update, not the Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch that players with stutter were hoping for. CD Projekt Red says it is investigating reported issues and hopes to have a bloom fix for every platform in its next update, but it has given no date and named no PS5 performance fix. The stutter, autosave hitches and slow inventory loading remain player reports that vary from one console to the next. If the remaster runs well for you, there's nothing to change. If it doesn't, report it and watch for the next console update. For what critics think of the game itself, and the Steam player record it set at launch, see our Witcher 3 Remastered review roundup.
FAQ
Does the Witcher 3 Remastered PS5 patch fix stutter?
No. Patch 5.00b lists lighting adjustments, parity changes with PC and a DLSS fix for the Xbox PC version. CD Projekt Red's notes don't mention frame rate, stutter or loading times.
Why does The Witcher 3 Remastered stutter on PS5 Pro for some players?
Nobody knows yet. Push Square's reviewer couldn't reproduce the reports by changing visual effects, telemetry or display settings, and CD Projekt Red hasn't named a cause. The one hitch he did see happens during autosaves.
When is the next Witcher 3 Remastered update?
CD Projekt Red hasn't given a date. Its community lead said on October 1 that the studio hopes to include bloom changes for all platforms in the next update.
Is there a PS5 hotfix like PC's 5.00c?
Not as of October 2, 2026. Hotfix 5.00c is listed for PC storefronts only: Steam, GOG, Epic, Battle.net and Xbox Play Anywhere.
