OpenAI DevDay 2026: GPT-6.1 Sol, Dots and what they cost
OpenAI DevDay 2026 brought GPT-6.1 Sol, always-on Dots agents and ChatGPT Space. What each one costs, what's live or in preview, and what Sol changed.

At OpenAI DevDay 2026 on September 29, the company announced more than 20 products and updates, and three of them lead the list: the GPT-6.1 Sol model, always-on agents called Dots, and a shared team workspace called ChatGPT Space. Most of it is available now, but a few pieces are in preview or "coming soon," and some prices are still unannounced. Here is what launched, what each piece costs as of September 30, 2026, and how GPT-6.1 Sol differs from the GPT-6 Sol that shipped a week earlier.
Key takeaways
- GPT-6.1 Sol keeps GPT-6 Sol's API price of $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens, one fifth of GPT-6 Astra's rates, but halves cached input to $0.10. OpenAI says it comes close to Astra on coding and computer use; that is the company's claim, not an independent result.
- Dots are agents that run on GPT-6 Astra with their own cloud computer and keep working after you close ChatGPT. The first one is included with Pro and Business Premium plans; the price of extra Dots hasn't been announced.
- ChatGPT Space is a shared workspace for teams and their agents, available now on Pro, Business and Enterprise plans.
- Still waiting: the Decisions API is in limited preview, and the faster Ultrafast version of GPT-6.1 Sol is "coming soon" with no date.
- The launches came one day after OpenAI canceled GPT-6.1 Astra over safety test results, so Sol is the only GPT-6.1 model you can use.
Everything OpenAI launched at DevDay 2026
VentureBeat counted "more than 20 products and updates" in the keynote. These are the ones most people will touch, with their price and status as of September 30, 2026. Prices are in US dollars.
| Product | What it is | Price | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| GPT-6.1 Sol | Upgraded mid-tier model | $2 / $10 per million tokens in the API | Live in the API, ChatGPT Work and Codex |
| Dots | Always-on agents on GPT-6 Astra | First Dot included with Pro and Business Premium | Rolling out; Enterprise by admin |
| ChatGPT Space | Shared workspace with editable Pages | Included with Pro, Business and Enterprise | Live on desktop and web |
| Codex cloud environments | Coding tasks that keep running in the cloud | Included with paid plans | Live |
| Decisions API | Fast multiple-choice answers on GPT-6 Luna | Not published | Limited preview |
| Ultrafast | Premium speed tier | 6x standard API rates | Live for GPT-6 Astra; Sol "coming soon" |
OpenAI also added a new $500-a-month ChatGPT Pro 500 plan and cut the usage included in Pro 200 from 20x to 10x Plus, according to BGR's rundown of the keynote. Our Pro 500 vs Pro 200 comparison covers what the new tiers include and who should switch.
GPT-6.1 Sol vs GPT-6 Sol: what changed
GPT-6.1 Sol is an update to the GPT-6 Sol model we covered on September 23, not a new tier. OpenAI's model page describes it as delivering "near-Astra performance at a lower cost for complex coding, computer use, and professional work." Here is how the two compare on OpenAI's own documentation and API pricing page, checked September 30, 2026.
| GPT-6 Sol | GPT-6.1 Sol | |
|---|---|---|
| Input, per million tokens | $2.00 | $2.00 |
| Cached input | $0.20 | $0.10 |
| Output | $10.00 | $10.00 |
| Context window | 1,050,000 tokens | 1,050,000 tokens |
| Knowledge cutoff | April 20, 2026 | April 30, 2026 |
| Reasoning levels | none to max | low to max |
The headline price didn't move. What changed for developers is cheaper cached input, which matters if your app resends the same long context, and one practical catch: GPT-6.1 Sol drops the none and minimal reasoning settings, so code that asks for them needs an update. Prompts over 272,000 input tokens still cost 2x on input and 1.5x on output.
On quality, the figures are OpenAI's. According to TechCrunch, the company says the factual error rate fell from 11.4% to 7.7% at low reasoning effort, and stays within 1.9 points of GPT-6 Astra across settings. Nobody outside OpenAI has published a check of those numbers yet.
In ChatGPT, GPT-6.1 Sol is available to Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu users in ChatGPT Work and Codex, but TechCrunch notes it is "not yet available in Chat," the regular conversation view. Developers can call it now as gpt-6.1-sol.
What OpenAI Dots do, and what they cost
Dots are OpenAI's always-on agents. Each one runs on GPT-6 Astra and has its own cloud computer and browser, so it can keep working on a goal after you close the chat, 9to5Google reports. You give a Dot tasks in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, and it can connect to more than 4,000 apps through OpenAI's plugins.

You set the limits. BGR says custom rules decide which actions need your approval, and sensitive tasks stay with you. When a Dot has nothing assigned, it can do what OpenAI calls proactive research in read-only mode.
The pricing is only half known. The first Dot is included at no extra cost for Pro and Business Premium subscribers, and Enterprise workspaces can turn Dots on through their admin. VentureBeat notes that OpenAI hasn't disclosed the usage allowance for heavy work, the price of additional Dots or the price of faster capacity.
ChatGPT Space and Pages for teams
ChatGPT Space is where people, ChatGPT, Codex and Dots work from the same shared context. Per VentureBeat, it replaces the Library for Pro, Business and Enterprise users, and it is built around Pages: documents that several people and their agents edit at the same time, pulling data from connected tools. Existing workspace sharing rules apply, and Business and Enterprise content isn't used to train models by default. BGR lists both Space and Pages as available now.
Codex in the cloud, the Decisions API and Ultrafast
Codex in the cloud. Codex now has reusable cloud environments that keep a task running when you close your laptop and let you follow it from a phone, TechCrunch's Sarah Perez writes. The Codex CLI also takes voice commands, and a new code review view lives in the ChatGPT desktop app. The Decoder lists these Codex updates for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu and Healthcare plans.
Decisions API. This one is for developers who need a quick pick from a fixed list: route a message to sales or support, or choose an agent's next tool. OpenAI's developer account announced it as powered by GPT-6 Luna and "available in limited preview." The Decoder reports it is about 10 times faster than a standard Luna call and accepts text and images. OpenAI hasn't published a price.
Ultrafast. A premium speed tier that OpenAI says is up to 8x faster in Codex and up to 6x faster in the API. It costs 6x the standard rate: $60 per million input tokens and $300 per million output tokens for GPT-6 Astra, the only model listed on the pricing page. In ChatGPT and Codex, BGR says it is limited to Pro 500 and Enterprise.
What happens next
Several answers are still missing as of September 30, 2026: the price of extra Dots, the Decisions API's price and general release date, a date for Ultrafast on GPT-6.1 Sol, and when GPT-6.1 Sol reaches the regular Chat view. OpenAI has also given no new date for a GPT-6.1 Astra. The AI section will track them as they land.
Bottom line
OpenAI DevDay 2026 put agents at the center. If you build on the API, switch to gpt-6.1-sol after checking your reasoning settings: same price, cheaper caching, and OpenAI claims fewer errors. If you pay for Pro or Business Premium, your first Dot is included, so it costs nothing to try beyond your plan. Everyone else can wait for independent tests of Sol and for OpenAI to price the parts it left blank.
