The One UI 9 update, Samsung's Android 17 software, is now rolling out in the US to the Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Verizon's support pages list it for all five models, dated October 2 for the foldables and October 5 for the S25 family. Outlets also report it on T-Mobile and AT&T, while unlocked phones may be a few days behind.
Key takeaways
- Who gets it: Verizon's own pages list One UI 9 for the Galaxy S25, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7. T-Mobile and AT&T sightings come from outlet and user reports, not carrier pages we could read.
- Unlocked phones: sources disagree. One outlet says unlocked models are included; another said on October 5 that they should follow within days.
- Download size: about 3.8 GB on the S25+ and 3.9 GB on the S25 Ultra, as reported by Android Authority. Plan for Wi-Fi and a charged battery.
- How to get it: Settings, then Software update, then Download and install. Rollouts arrive in waves, so "no update yet" is normal for a few days.
- What's new: Samsung highlights My FanCam video tracking, smarter Now Brief and Now Nudge suggestions, Privacy Alerts and a Security Brief.
Is your Galaxy getting the One UI 9 update now?
If you have a 2025 Samsung flagship on Verizon, the carrier's support pages say yes. They list Android 17 and One UI 9.0 for the Galaxy S25, S25 FE and S25 Edge as of October 5, 2026, and for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 as of October 2.
On other carriers, the evidence is secondhand. Android Authority reports that the Flip 7 update has been spotted on AT&T and the Fold 7 update on T-Mobile and Verizon, and it says the US rollout covers both carrier-locked and unlocked models. 9to5Google, writing the same day, said unlocked units should get it "within the next few days or so". We couldn't confirm the unlocked status from Samsung or from T-Mobile's or AT&T's own pages, so if your phone is unlocked and nothing shows up yet, check again over the next week.
Samsung itself announced the stable release on September 16, starting with the Galaxy S26 series, and said in its newsroom post that it would "gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices." That post names no US dates for the S25 or the foldables. According to Android Authority, South Korea got the S25 and foldable update about a week before the US.
Build numbers and download size
Whether you're checking the Galaxy S25 One UI 9 build or a foldable's, build numbers are the quickest way to confirm you're on the right software. You'll find yours in Settings, About phone, Software information.
| Phone | US build (Verizon) | Listed on |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S25 | S931USQUCDZIF | October 5 |
| Galaxy S25 FE | S731USQU9CZIF | October 5 |
| Galaxy S25 Edge | S937USQU9DZIF | October 5 |
| Galaxy Z Fold 7 | F966USQUCCZIH | October 2 |
| Galaxy Z Flip 7 | F766USQUCCZIH | October 2 |
Droid Life lists S936USQUCDZIF for the S25+ and S938USQUCDZIF for the S25 Ultra. Verizon's pages for the S25 FE, S25 Edge and Z Flip 7 also show the September 2026 security patch.
Samsung hasn't published a download size for the One UI 9 update. Android Authority reports roughly 3.8 GB on an S25+ coming from One UI 8.5 and about 3.9 GB on an S25 Ultra. Your exact size depends on the model and the version you're updating from.

How to check for and install One UI 9 safely
Samsung's own update guide walks through the steps, and they're the same for every model here:
- Open Settings and tap Software update (on some carrier phones it's called System updates).
- Tap Download and install. Depending on your carrier, the button may read Check for system updates instead.
- If the update appears, let it download, then install it when you won't need the phone for a while.
Samsung recommends a well-charged battery before you start and notes that some carriers require Wi-Fi to check for and install updates. With a download near 4 GB, Wi-Fi is the sensible choice anyway. Two steps of our own we'd add: back up your phone first, and make sure you have several gigabytes of free storage so the install doesn't stall.
If nothing appears, that's normal. Samsung and the carriers release major updates in waves, so two identical phones can get it days apart.
What's new in One UI 9
Samsung's announcement focuses on a few headline features:
- My FanCam: Samsung says it tracks a person you choose in a recorded video and keeps them centered.
- Now Brief and Now Nudge: Samsung says Now Brief gets cards you can generate and edit, and Now Nudge surfaces context-aware suggestions in more places.
- Privacy Alerts and Security Brief: on-device AI flags apps that ask for permissions they don't need, and a brief warns you about malware and permission issues.
- Interpreter and Creative Studio: a thread view for translated conversations, and image ideas based on upcoming events.
Verizon's notes add Call Brief, which shows relevant information during calls, and a Warranty and Care section in Settings on the foldables. Android Authority also lists a more customizable Quick Panel, DeX improvements and Samsung Health upgrades. Android 17 brings Google's own platform changes too, such as the stricter Advanced Protection mode for accessibility apps.
Bottom line
If you own a Galaxy S25, S25 FE, S25 Edge, Z Fold 7 or Z Flip 7 on Verizon, One UI 9 is available now according to Verizon's own pages. T-Mobile and AT&T owners are seeing it too, according to outlet reports, and unlocked phones should get it within days if they don't have it already. Back up, connect to Wi-Fi, check Settings, and expect a download of around 4 GB. For more Samsung software news, see our software coverage.
