Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] launches on Switch 2 on Thursday, October 8, 2026, and it is the first time the main series runs natively on a Nintendo console instead of streaming from a server. This guide covers what the Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 version includes, how big it is, what the game-key card means, when each platform can start playing, and what to do if you bought the old cloud versions.
Key takeaways
- Scheduled for October 8, 2026 on Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC through the Xbox app. PS5 and Xbox digital pre-orders unlock 48 hours early, on October 6.
- The collection bundles three packages: HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind. Nintendo's US eShop lists it at US$74.99.
- The Switch 2 boxed edition is a game-key card, and a retailer listing says it needs a 128GB download. That's half of the console's 256 GB of built-in storage.
- The Switch cloud versions left the eShop on June 9, 2026 and stop working on June 9, 2027. Square Enix offers owners a discount on the matching Switch 2 digital version and a save transfer; the boxed edition doesn't qualify.
- It already sits at #1 on the Switch 2 eShop chart for October 4, pushed by pre-loads, ahead of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave.
What's in Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III]
Nintendo's US store listing names three packages, the same ones Square Enix sold on PS4:
- Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX: Kingdom Hearts Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix and Birth by Sleep Final Mix, plus the story cutscenes of 358/2 Days and Re:coded as movies.
- Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue: Dream Drop Distance HD, the short episode 0.2 Birth by Sleep: A fragmentary passage, and the movie Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover.
- Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind, with the Re Mind expansion included.
You don't have to buy all three. On the PlayStation Store and the Xbox store, each package is listed at US$39.99 on its own, against US$74.99 for the collection, as of October 5, 2026. Every platform also gets its own bonus Keyblade for Kingdom Hearts III: Long Night on Switch 2, Midnight Blue on PS5 and Phantom Green on Xbox. Square Enix's store describes these as pre-order bonuses that stay redeemable after launch.
Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 release date and early access
The launch date is the same everywhere, but not everyone starts on the same day:
| Platform | Release date | Early access | Price (US store) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nintendo Switch 2 | October 8, 2026 | None listed | US$74.99 |
| PS5 | October 8, 2026 | 48 hours, from October 6, for digital pre-orders | US$74.99 |
| Xbox Series X|S and PC | October 8, 2026 | 48 hours, from October 6, for digital pre-orders | US$74.99 |
Both the PlayStation and Xbox store pages show October 6 as the release date, because that's when early access opens, and say that pre-ordering by 11:59 PM on October 7 gets you the 48 hours. Neither page names a time zone. The Xbox version supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers Xbox consoles and Windows PCs, and Microsoft's page lists 4K and 60fps or more for Series X|S. Nintendo's page lists no early access for Switch 2, and neither Nintendo nor Square Enix has published resolution or frame rate figures for the Switch 2 version.
Download size and the game-key card
If you buy the boxed Kingdom Hearts Collection Switch 2 edition, the cartridge in the case is a game-key card, not the game. The JB Hi-Fi listing says a 128GB full game download is required, and Square Enix's own store warns that the physical version needs an internet connection and an additional download. Nintendo's US page didn't list a file size when we checked on October 5, 2026, so treat 128GB as the retailer's figure until the eShop shows its own.

A game-key card works as a license: you insert it, download the full game, and keep the card in the slot each time you play. Our game-key card vs game card guide explains what that means for lending, resale and offline play. The bigger practical issue is space. The Switch 2 has 256 GB of built-in storage, so this one collection would take half of it. If you're already near full, read our Switch 2 SD card guide before launch day, since only microSD Express cards work for games.
The boxed edition also includes a reversible cover with a 25th anniversary design and the platform Keyblade, according to the JB Hi-Fi listing.
What happens to the Kingdom Hearts cloud versions
The old Switch releases of these games were cloud versions: the game ran on a remote server and streamed to your console, so it needed a steady internet connection. Square Enix's support notice set out the timeline:
- June 9, 2026, 14:59 UTC: the four cloud titles (HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III + Re Mind and the Integrum Masterpiece bundle) were removed from sale.
- June 9, 2027, 14:59 UTC: they stop working. Until then, owners can keep playing.
What cloud owners can do
Square Enix says cloud owners can buy the matching Switch 2 digital version at a discount, and only the version that matches the cloud title they own. Owners of Kingdom Hearts Integrum Masterpiece for Cloud qualify on all of them. The physical Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] is excluded.
On the amount, Nintendo's listing says players who own all the cloud titles individually, or Integrum Masterpiece, get 50% off every Switch 2 native version and the collection. For owners of only one or two cloud titles, Square Enix's notice says the discount applies to the matching game but doesn't state a percentage, and none of the pages we read gives a deadline for the offer. Check the eShop price while signed in with the account that bought the cloud version.
Your progress comes with you. The notice says saves can be transferred from the cloud version to the Switch 2 digital version, which RPG Site also reported in June. There's no free upgrade: you pay the discounted price.
If you're on an original Switch, TheSixthAxis reported that HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX is getting a native Switch release too, with the same 50% offer for cloud owners. The rest of the series is Switch 2 only.
Owners of the last-generation console versions
One More Game reports, citing the Southeast Asian launch announcement from Square Enix and Bandai Namco Entertainment Asia, that owners of the digital PS4 and Xbox One versions also get a discount on the new PS5 and Xbox Series versions. It doesn't give the amount, and we couldn't confirm it on the PlayStation or Xbox store pages.
Why it tops the Switch 2 eShop before launch
Pre-loads opened ahead of release, and that was enough. In the Switch 2 eShop chart Nintendo Everything published on October 4, Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] is first, ahead of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Minecraft Dungeons 2. TheGamer reports the #1 spot is on the US eShop, while the collection sits eighth in the UK. A chart position is a ranking, not a sales figure, and neither Nintendo nor Square Enix has published numbers.
Troubleshooting
- The game won't start from the card. A game-key card needs an internet connection the first time. Insert the card while connected and let the full download finish before you try to play.
- Not enough space. You need about 128GB free, by the retailer's figure. Move or archive other games, or add a microSD Express card.
- The cloud discount doesn't show. It is tied to the Nintendo Account that owns the cloud version, and it only covers digital purchases, not the boxed game.
- No early access on Switch 2. That's expected: the 48-hour window is listed only for PS5 and Xbox digital pre-orders.
Bottom line
Kingdom Hearts Collection [I-III] arrives on Switch 2 on October 8, 2026 as a native port that runs on the console instead of streaming from a server. Budget about 128GB of space, and remember the boxed version is a key to that download, not the game itself. If you own the cloud versions, the discounted digital copy plus a save transfer is the path Square Enix offers, and the cloud versions keep working until June 9, 2027, so there's no rush on day one. Watch for Square Enix's Switch 2 performance details and independent tests after launch.
